What to Know About Monograms

by Jennifer Sanford, Invitation Creations by Jennifer

Monograms are timeless, rich in history, and add a classic touch to almost everything. Designer monograms appear everywhere; handbags, ties, scarves, wallets, etc., but the beauty of a personal monogram is that it is, personal. It’s a great way to tie several different aspects of your wedding back to one theme. It can add the perfect, personal touch to your wedding by using it on stationary, dinnerware, napkins, floor/wall, favors, and more! It’s a great way to tie several different aspects of your wedding back to one theme!

Traditionally, a 3 letter monogram for a woman would use the first letter of her first name on the left, her last name in the center, and her middle name on the right. It is not until the couple has tied the knot when her monogram changes. After you are married, for your personal use, your monogram will remain the same with the exception of the last name. The center of your monogram will be replaced with the first letter of your married last name. Finally, if you want to include your husband in your monogram, your initial on the left will stay in place; your married last name will go in the middle, and the first initial of his name will be on the right

Monograms on your Invitations:
Combining the Bride & Groom’s initials in a monogram signifies union and the start of a new family. So ~ when brides come into my studio and want to use a monogram on the wedding invitations, most have not really thought this through. Even though you may see samples online showing monograms on invitations, it does not make it correct. It is my professional duty to explain that you that you are not that person yet. One year, six weeks, or day, prior to the wedding, your name has not changed, thereby, neither has your monogram. So when your guests receive their invitations, you are single and inviting them to witness your union as husband and wife, and Mr. and Mrs.

Plain and simple, you are not that person until you say, “I DO!” Once I explain this to you, and you still want to use your married monogram on your invitations ~ it is your choice, because they are YOUR invitations.

To see samples of monogrammed invitations, wedding supplies and gifts visit our Monogram feature HERE.

Be a Princess Bride!

After Princess Di appeared in her elaborate wedding gown with puff sleeves, lots of lace embroidery, pearls and a 25 foot train, every 80's bride wanted to be a princess bride too. Tiaras became popular, full skirts were a must and embellishment was over the top. Way over the top!

The daughters of these brides were treated this weekend to a 21st century royal wedding. The Swedish princess appeared in an elegant and classy gown that reminds this writer of the stylish, clean lines of 1960's Jackie O fashion(and now I'm really dating myself!)

Brides-to-be who are loving the look of this latest royal wedding gown can find a similar and affordable option at The Brides Boutique. Pictured here is Venus Bridals Pallas Athena style # 891024. This Mikado gown features a portrait neckline and an A-line skirt. The satin waist band is embellished with beaded detail on the front and a back bow. It is finished with a buttons over zipper that go all the way down the chapel length train.

Welcome New Member - Stella & Dot

Michele Gayler, as a Stella & Dot stylist, has recently joined ClarksvilleBrides. She says, "It is a fabulous company that has incredible jewelry! The designer (Blythe Harris) is amazing and the jewelry is unique, exciting, and celebrity coveted!"

On June 7th a new line of bridal pieces are being released and we can't wait to share them with you!

Michele tells us, "We do in home "trunk shows" that are fun and casual, no pressure! It's like playing dress up! The hostess ends up with $100s in free jewelry and up to 4 half price items. Customers can also go online and order anytime. The jewelry ships directly to the customer both from the website or trunk show. I can see a bride hosting a trunk show and get great jewelry free for her wedding, honeymoon, bridesmaids or flower girl! Or better yet, a friend can host it, but give the rewards to the bride as a shower!! Everyone wins!"

About herself Michele says, "As the mother of a busy family, a military wife and the 101 Combat Aviation Brigade Family Readiness Group Advisor, I was already busy juggling many positions. Why then would I decide to take on another title, that of Stella & Dot Stylist? The simplest response is, how could I not!
With the help of my daughter, who is also a busy college girl, I didn't see how I could possibly pass up on this fabulous opportunity! I wanted a business that I was proud of, and if I worked hard I could enjoy the rewards of my own effort. Like lots of people, I dreamed about being an entrepreneur, but didn't know if I had the money to make it happen! When I discovered Stella & Dot, and realized how affordable it was to start a profitable and high potential business, I knew I could stop dreaming and start living! I didn't need to open my own boutique and worry about leases, inventory, websites, and employees! I was thrilled that I could launch this business RIGHT AWAY and work it right alongside my busy schedule! No risk at all. I didn't have any home business experience, but the product is so stylish and affordable, it sells itself! Tons of my customers have already seen Stella & Dot jewelry featured fashion magazines, like Instyle, People, Oprah and more! I LOVE style and people, so the parties are a blast. Plus, the training and support that comes from my sponsor and the Home Office has been great and made things so fun and easy for me!"

Spotlighting I Do Bridal Makeup

Rockelle Coffey, of I Do Bridal Makeup, performed her artistry on all of the ladies in this bridal party. From the Bride and her Bridesmaids to her Grandmother and Aunt, everyone benefited from Rockelle's makeup magic.

Rocky tells us that the bridal party ladies and the Mother of the Bride were all airbrushed. Traditional and mineral makeup application on the Grandmother and Aunt.

Below are some photos of these lovely ladies on the special day including the bride touching up her lips with the complimentary gloss Rockelle gave her right before the ceremony. Take special note of the later evening photos. Makeup was done at 10 am and everyone still looked fresh and flawless that evening. Thanks for sharing with us Rocky!

A magical winter wonderland - how one bride's vision became a reality

by Carly Rager, Carly Rager Design & Event Planning

The most signifigant part of any wedding budget is usually spent on the reception. On February 27th, I had the honor of assisting Amanda and Jason with their wedding. The decorating began the night before right after the wedding rehearsal just before the dinner. Blaire and I met the bride and groom along with some of their family and friends at Waterstreet Events Center. We began arranging the tables to a likable floor plan, covering the tables with the beautiful midnight blue linens Amanda had rented, as well as slip covering all the chairs with the matching midnight blue with ivory sashes. (see video below)

I asked Amanda to have a few friends available for this task. It is very time consuming task and next to impossible for 1 or 2 people to do alone the day of the wedding if they are handling all the other tasks for the day. I had a brief session with them to go over how to do it and achieve the look Amanda wanted.

Upon arriving Saturday morning I was very excited to see that they had completed the chair covering and I simply needed to re-tie some of the sashes. The amazing Courtney, from Sango Village Florist met me there that morning just to offer a helping hand.

I can not tell you how much I appreciated having one extra set of hands. Blaire was with the wedding party working their way through all the pictures. There was a small mishap with the linen supplier. They sent the wrong number of linens with the damask print, but I quickly improvised and no one ever knew what the original plan was.

Amanda's vision was a magical, crystal, winter wonderland theme with a medieval twist. She had purchased tons of crystals and sparkly things to spread throughout the room. I began with placing runners on the family tables and then spreading crystals in the center of all the tables.

Amanda had purchased a variety of glassware for Sango Village Florist to work their magic with. There were many styles of centerpieces from low to medium to tall. All uniquely designed with Amanda's theme in mind. They used a variety of white flowers, silver bear grass and silver branches. We placed the different arrangements on alternating tables allowing the guests something different to look at everywhere they turned.

The couple had decided on some really nice favors for their guests and they were displayed in a treasure chest. There was also a camera and printer displayed next to the favors giving the guests the opportunity to take a picture and add it to a guest book where they could personalize a message for the couple.

There was also an ice martini luge which was a hit with all the guests. It was back lit with blue lighting provided by Sound Machine DJ. The bride's family and friends provided the food preparation and services. The groom's mother made and designed both cakes as well as the branch archway that greeted all the guests when they enter the reception hall. We hung sparkling snowflakes off the branches completing the winter wonderland feel.

The guests had an amazing time dancing the night away. I really enjoyed working with this couple on such an important day in their lives. Please visit my blog CarlyRager.com to see some of the still shots I took of some of the details from their day. I would also like to thank to always wonderful and oh so talented Danielle Lear of Turning Point Productions for documenting my work. See the video below. I really love working with such reliable and talented vendors. It really makes my job easier.

Ashlea was inspired to go back to school and earn her degree in photography after planning her own wedding. "For many years I had pursued photography as a hobby, but had never thought it could be a career. I saw how much the field of wedding photography had changed in the time from when my friends were married to the time I was married and was inspired by the idea that wedding photography could actually be artistic."

Ashlea previously worked professionally in mental health and sees this as an advantage during the busy wedding day. "I have shot weddings where the make-up artist didn't show up, as well as weddings where family members very clearly did not get along. This is when my previous experience helps smooth the day." Many times, the person you spend the most time with on your wedding day, outside of your Maid of Honor, is your photographer. It's a wonderful thing to have a photographer by your side who wants very much to not only capture great images, but who has your emotional best interests at heart.

Ashlea is a member of Professional Photographers of America and has an A.A.S degree in Visual Communications from Nashville State. Ashlea was recognized for her skill and artistic talent while in school and was awarded the Cathy O-Bryant photography scholarship.

To see Ashlea's latest work, she invites you to visit the Ashlea Terhune Photography website and blog.
